We are still in the midst of a cold snap, so soup is on my mind all the time. It’s great for supper, great for lunch – warm, comforting, goes a long way, uses ingredients I have so I don’t have to go outside. Just before Christmas I bought a big bag of pre-cooked shrimp…then

Once upon a when-my-kids-were-little, I would ask the question, “what do you guys want for supper”, and a little voice would answer (generally the mancub), far more often than I appreciated, “Hamburger Helper”. Sorry, Betty Crocker, but I hate that stuff. It’s bland and the sauce is plastic-y and no amount of dressing it up

My mom used to make split pea soup when I was a kid. I remember the summer of cold mint split pea soup – not fondly, but I do remember it. It actually was better heated up, but to this day I cannot get my head around cold soup. Mom spent about 6 months or

It’s a classic….not necessarily the cherry part of the proceedings, but the crumble. When I bought the can of pumpkin for the pumpkin bars, they were on sale. I don’t like pumpkin enough to stock two cans, I prefer fresh or frozen blueberries to canned, and the cherry one looked so inviting. The picture looked

No, there’s no actual steak….it’s basically a burger with no bun but plenty of gravy. Doesn’t matter to me, though, it tastes really good and that’s what I want from my food. Flavour! This is a comfort meal component for me. It’s a hot meal on a chilly evening. It’s simple ingredients. It’s inexpensive ingredients.

I’m not a fanatic for pumpkin spice. Don’t come for me with pitchforks and torches! I like pumpkin, although I cannot fathom why anyone would make pumpkin soup with sweet spices….I definitely prefer savoury soup. It isn’t that I don’t like pumpkin spice particularly, I love the components of it – I don’t actively hate

Ohhh, chocolate, how I love thee! I even like chocolate protein powder and nobody likes that. We had Pho soup for supper, and I figured with all the vegetables, I could squeeze in some kind of chocolate dessert type thing and be okay with it. So, the search was on. By the way, shortly there

Funny story – I actually wanted noodles for supper tonight…..and somehow I ended up at beef pie. The internet is a wondrous thing. You start somewhere, looking for inspiration and end up a million pages away. Anyway, this can be made with a pie crust to completely enclose it, just a top pie crust or

I have to admit it – I make my own sun-dried tomatoes. Whenever I can’t get through the tomatoes I buy before they start going soft, I either toss them in the freezer (whole) or I slice them up and put them on the dehydrator for a few hours. When they’re done, I put them
